Два гимна признаны государственными в Новой Зеландии — «Боже, защити Новую Зеландию» (англ. God, Defend New Zealand) и «Боже, храни Королеву» (англ. God Save the Queen). Хотя оба имеют равный статус, «Боже, храни Новую Зеландию» более используем.

Текст «Боже, храни Новую Зеландию» был написан в 1870 году Томасом Бракеном (англ. Thomas Bracken). Победителем конкурса на музыку к тексту, проводимого в 1876 году, стал Джон Джозеф Вудс (англ. John Joseph Woods). Песня получила популярность, и в 1940 году правительство страны приобрело авторские права на неё и определила её в качестве национального гимна. Но лишь в 1977 году песня законодательно была утверждена в качестве второго государственного гимна.

Текст гимна «Боже, храни Новую Зеландию» состоит из пяти куплетов. Оригинал текста написан на английском языке, официальная версия имеет также перевод на язык маори. Традиционно на государственных мероприятиях исполняется лишь первый куплет, сначала звучит версия на языке маори, затем — версия на английском языке

Гимн Новой Зеландии называется «God Defend New Zealand». Нынешний гимн Новой Зеландии принят 21 ноября 1977 года. Гимн также переведён на язык маори.
